About Us
Welcome to Ponderosa Estate Sale Services, your trusted estate sale company where small-town values intersect with a passion for treasures. Nestled in the heart of Unadilla, NE—affectionately known as the Groundhog Capital with a close-knit community of 370 residents—we take pride in our family-oriented approach to helping you navigate the often challenging process of liquidating a household.
A Passion Born from Tradition
Owner Michele Wilhelm fondly recalls her childhood spent treasure-hunting at farm and estate auctions. Accompanying her parents, they eagerly scanned sale bills posted at community spots like West Grocery, Red’s Cafe, and Norm’s 66 gas station. Saturdays were filled with anticipation, as the family dedicated the day to searching for hidden gems, often bringing home boxes overflowing with finds—all in pursuit of that one special item. These cherished discoveries inspired Michele to help others uncover their treasures.
Nurtured by a Love for Antiques
Michele’s love for antiques blossomed even further when her mother opened Horstman’s Antique Mall in Unadilla. After a 26-year career with the State of Nebraska, Michele embraced a new chapter in her life when she reconnected with a childhood friend at Roc Hopper Brewing Company. This encounter opened the door to the estate sale industry, and she wholeheartedly seized the opportunity to assist families in managing their estate sales with care and expertise.
Connecting with Our Community
While Unadilla holds a special place in her heart, Michele has also served clients in Lincoln, Omaha, and neighboring towns. Each estate sale is more than just a transaction; it’s a chance to connect with people and provide support during challenging times. Helping families find closure and joy in their cherished belongings is a mission that resonates deeply with our core values.

Why We Love What We Do
“One of the things I love most about estate sales is watching treasured belongings find their way to a new owner who appreciates them just as much as the original family did. There’s something incredibly meaningful about seeing a piece that has been loved for decades begin a new chapter in someone else’s home.
I especially enjoy seeing the creativity of upcycling and repurposing — the beautiful ways people reimagine dishes, décor, and furniture and incorporate them into modern life. Furniture, in particular, can be the most challenging to rehome. It often takes a special buyer with vision — someone who can see beyond the scratches or dated finish and recognize the craftsmanship, the solid wood, and the potential waiting to be brought back to life.
I’ll admit, I struggle with discarding furniture. So many pieces are incredibly well made, far better quality than much of what is produced today. Often, they don’t need to be thrown away; they just need the right person with the time, talent, and inspiration to give them new purpose.
At a recent sale, we had a beautiful dresser that drew many inquiries. The challenge wasn’t lack of interest — it was its smaller size. Fortunately, this particular sale allowed us extra time during the cleanout process. That extra time made all the difference. We were able to connect the dresser with the perfect new owner, someone who had a clear vision for its transformation.
The photo of the finished inspiration (on the right) shows what it will become — a stunning, high-end statement piece. Interestingly, newly manufactured furniture with a similar look often sells for well over $1,000, and still doesn’t match the solid wood quality of the original.
People hold onto their possessions for many different reasons — memories, craftsmanship, family history, or simply the beauty of the piece. Knowing that those valued items will continue to be appreciated can ease the emotional weight of downsizing. When families see their belongings thoughtfully placed into new homes, it often brings comfort and makes the transition just a little more manageable.
At the end of the day, estate sales aren’t just about selling items, they’re about honoring stories, preserving quality, and helping treasures find their next life.”
